We have an old Windows 2003 file server and would like to migrate all data to a new Windows 2012 R2 file server.
In the past, we used tools such as "robocopy" (logged in as domain admin) to copy all data to the new destination server. Then we re-created all file shares. Mostly this worked just fine... however, sometimes we ran into problems over rights i.e. if the end-users changed the NTFS permissions on the source directories, where even the domain admin had no rights.
Any further tips of the trade of how best we perform this migration would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
