Hi everyone,
I hope somebody can help me with this. I have some difficulties setting up Work Folders with multiple sync servers and a Web Application Proxy using a single URL. All the servers are located in the same site.
My understanding about the discovery process is that the client finds the sync server of the user using the workfolders@domainname address to get to one of the sync server and then the sync server queries a DC to get the URL stored in the msDS-SyncServerUrl attribute, which is sent back to the client.
If the sync share is on another server the URL is returned to the client correctly but it looks like the client tries to make a direct connection to the sync server without going through the Proxy, it is unsuccessful and I get this error in the event log: Sync Share discovery failed. Server URL: https://syncserver2.domainname; Partnership type: User Data; Error: (0x80072efe).
Is this normal behavior? I don’t have this problem in the internal network because I don’t use the Web Application Proxy. For the clients on the Internet all the IP addresses (workfolders, syncserver1, syncserver2, adfs…) point to the external interface of the WAP. I tried to publish the sync servers but it doesn’t work either. Somebody in this forum suggests to use DFS Namespace, it’s a great idea and I’ll probably go this way if I have to but I didn’t find any official documentation about this so far.
Regards,
Robert
