Hi Experts,
I have the following query with regards to DFS replication.
I have 1 DFS domain based namespace, where there are 18 DFS servers running in Windows 2003 R2 based servers. We are going to replace the legacy servers with a new Windows 2008 R2 based servers. The new servers are going to be joined in the same namespace as the old and will be located in a different data center.
We are planning to replicate most of the data beforehand to the target storage using SAN based replication, and then introduce new server, configure DFS-R based replication , so that only the delata changes are replicated. The plan is to reduce the overall replication time using DFS-R based replication by using SAN based replication first.
I.e Configure the target server(B) with its own local storage, Replicate source Server(A) data using storage based replication, introduce server B into DFS namespace, configure DFS-R based replication using
replication group(server A and B), configure replication folders to be replicated between the two and let the DFS replicate whatever the remaining replication to be completed and once completed plan a cutover from A to B using MS guidelines.
Hope this is a supported scenario, please advise with any suggestions or how this can be done without affecting the users.
