Hi All
I was hoping someone can help me.
My friend has a server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise.
The server is not used for much apart from file storage. He wants to have a network share on his Windows 7 computer which can connect remotely to the file storage on the server when he is outside of the network.
His office where the server is located is using a static IP so I can connect to the server with no problem using RDP with the static IP and the relevant port forwarding set for RDP on the router but try as I might and I have Googled a lot for a solution to this problem I can not find a way to create a shortcut on his Windows 7 computer that will work once he leaves the network that the server is on for example when he is at home.
I have tried all the usual stuff such as:
\\ static ip address \\ STANLEY \\ Public (I had to add spaces to the demo path shown as it won't let me post this otherwise but I of course done it with no spaces when I tried and the static IP address is of course the actual IP being 82.152.***.*** and STANLEY is the actual name of the server and Public is where the share is.
Just so I am clear when I say the static IP address I mean the one that is supplied by the ISP for remote access to the router and therefore the network behind the router from outside of the office.
Any help would greatly be appreciated so I can help my friend out.
Thanks
Rab
