How will migrating disk array to new server in new domain effect DFS

Hi

As part of an internal restructure we have introduced a new W2k8 domain. We have already migrated users across using Quest and we want to move servers across now. The old domain is W2K3 R2 based and contains a DFS server configured with folder links to shares on a win2K3 file server. This server's data volumes are on a fibre attached array.

We want to replace this file server with a new file server in the new domain. The current thinking is to detach the array from the old server and present it to the new server (we have already migrated NTFS groups and permissions for the new domain).

My concern is how we should manage the DFS migration. My preference would be to completely remove the existing DFS environment inthe W2K3 domain before moving the array and then recreate from scratch in the new domain once the data volumes are attached to the new server. However, I know the mechanism behind DFSR creates a lot of hidden files and folders (DfsrPrivate) and I'm not sure whether this will get cleaned up if we un-install DFS and may then cause issues when we come to recreate DFS in the new domain.

Any advice would be appreciated.
