Windows SBS 2008 and Storage Server 2008 namespace or just replication?

We run currently have a head office with a SBS 2008 server and a remote site that was using RDP but are trying to install a Storage Server 2008 as they mostly only need access to email and some documents so no major need to RDP.  We have a dedicated adsl based VPN between the 2 sites.

Is it best to setup a Namespace and then replicate this or just use folder replication and create local mappings for the 2 users at the remote site.  The remote site does not have an AD setup and am not sure if that can de enabled on the Storage Server?

I have currently set it up with a namespace and replication but I don't think it's opening at the remote site from the WSS it seems to be opening from the SBS is this because there is not AD or am I missing a setting somewhere to ensure that machines on the same ip address space will reference the right server.
