I have a StorageSpace on Server 2012R2 which will never complete mounting a virtual drive. By never I mean leaving it mounting for 2 months.
The configuration:
StorageSpace:
10 4 TB drives
3 128 GB SSD's
Dual LSI 9211-8i with IT firmware
The VirtualDrive:
20 TB Max size with a little over 10 TB used. Its a 5 column dual parity with SSD configured as Journals and 50 GB WrtieCache Size. Access is ReadWrite. The drive ran for months with no errors until I was reconfiguring the physical drive locations.
I can create new virtual drives on the StorageSpace with no issues and can move data to and from them. At one point during an upgrade the storagespace lost communication with the Journal drives, after reconnecting and repairing the storagespace reports healthy. I tried using both PowerShell and Server Manager to mount the drive with the same result, the physical drives will show constant read activity on the controller and in resource manager. It will remain like that until I give up, rebooting the server or losing power. Twice that has persisted for 6 weeks or more. From what I can tell there are no errors in the event log. No smart errors on any of the drives. No controller errors.
First, I would like to recover some of the data, so is there a way to mount the drive in read-only mode? Second, this seems like a weird issue, figured someone at MS might want to do some troubleshooting or log collecting. Third, any ideas on how to get this thing to mount?
