I'm using a Windows Server 2012 R2 box with a large-ish (24.5 TB) volume on direct-attached-storage (SAS) as a backup repository for VEEAM. I have deduplication turned on it's working very well.
My concern is that in the event of a failure of the server, such as failure if the server's system disks, will I be able to recover/re-hydrate the data on the deduped volume? If I were to plug the the storage into a completely new Win2K12R2 server, would the server be able to read the deduped volume? Would any additional work be required to access the data? Is there a "metabase" or similar that should be backed up?
Thanks!
