Folder targets in DFS namespace were deleted in DFS management but the remote share folder still has DFS tab and referral list.

Folder targets in DFS namespace were deleted in DFS management but the remote share folder still has DFS tab and referral list.  I am trying to keep this share and it has files and folders in it but hitting it from the network still shows the files from the DFS share and not the current contents.  I stopped sharing the folder and recreated the share and still get a DFS tab in the properties.  Using a different share name does not associate with DFS but legacy scripts require the original share name.  Why is the share name holding on to DFS but no DFS console shows this server as a having and targets?
