Hi,
I have a task of migrating our existing DFS servers (2 x 2008 R2 physical servers) to our new 2 x 2012 R2 Servers (virtual machines).
The existing volumes for DFS management on the 2008 servers are on iSCSI shared storage. The new 2012 servers are direct-attached SAS storage.
Based on this design, whats the best practice of migrating DFS role and the data on the volumes to the new 2012 server?
I was thinking of the following: -
1. Creating the volumes on the new 2012 VM's with direct-attached storage.
2. Once complete, use the 'File Server Migration Toolkit' to migrate the shares, DFS role from the existing iSCSI volumes to the new volumes. (I haven't used this toolkit before).
After this, how would I ensure the new targets are correctly configured with the old targets (old server) removed?
Any advice/tips or steps would be hugely appreciated for me to achieve what I need to do.
Thanks.
