Migrating DFS "master" to new server

I have a pair of server 2003 R2 servers that have a DFS namespace between them, some folders are replicated between them and some are only on one server but not the other but are still part of the namespace

-the Primary DC needs to be upgraded to server 2008 R2 but before we do that we will be migrating all of its Roles to a new server 2008 R2 box

I have already run DCpromo on the new server (have not yet seized roles though)

I installed DFS and started replicating to the new server in the current namespace, data is replicating but I want to be sure that the new server will take over as the DFS boss so that the old server can be removed.

One thing that I noticed that gave me pause was that once I started replication on the first folder the used space on the main (old) server went up by about 5 GB or so (I am guessing this is due to the staging? but it has not gone back down)

I have done extensive research on this but I have not found a guide that specifically says it will work from server 2003 R2 to 2008 R2 (most are just for 2003 R2 to 2003 R2).

Can anyone who has done this before give me any advice or point me to a good resource? It looked pretty straight forward when I started but small things I did not expect ar making me nervous, like even thought the new server is replicating and those files say their referral status is enabled I do not see the new server in the list of namespace servers, should I manually add it?
