Running Server 2012 R2 DFS services in a Server 2008 R2 Domain

I've read a couple of interoperability articles regarding DFS and Server 2012 R2 / Server 2008 R2 but am having a difficult time finding some details.

I am specifically trying to determine any incompatibilities I may encounter when adding 2012 R2 DFS servers (using DFS Namespaces at the very least, but possibly DFS Replication as well) to a 2008 R2 Domain with an exsiting 2008 R2 DFS infrastructure (using Domain-based Windows 2000 mode).

I have read that the Schema may need to be extended for 2012 R2 in one article, but another article says this is not needed if your Schema is configured for 2008 R2 (value 47), which mine is.

In addition, is it required that DFS be upgraded from Domain-based Windows 2000 mode in order to add 2012 R2 DFS systems?

I have reviewed Requirements section in the "DFS Namespaces and DFS Replication Overview" article for 2012 R2 already but I'm not confident it's the entire story.

Thanks!
