A recently published TechNet article "Replace Failed Disks and Repair JBODs for Storage Spaces in Windows Server" offers guidance on column configuration that I had not seen before:
"Use at least one fewer columns than the maximum when you configure your storage spaces—If a disk fails, you can’t rebuild affected virtual disks unless there are enough physical disks to rebuild the virtual disks with the original column count
◦ If you’re using enclosure-awareness, this means using one fewer columns than the number of physical disks in the enclosure for the given tier."
Using the "Storage Spaces - Designing for Performance" sample configuration as an example, does this guidance mean 2 columns would be more appropriate for the SQL Logs mirror space?
Just trying to get my head around this. Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks!
