We'll be moving to AD soon, and are testing various things currently. Before I go testing this I figured the answer would be pretty easy. We are currently building a file server for testing. In the event of a failure and the host drive is non bootable or otherwise damaged. Are the rights to the specific files and folders stored in AD or on this individual server? In the event the host drive does not boot how do we restore the data drives permissions to the server without going in folder by folder and applying them?
The idea was that we could rebuild a new server or a server with the same name and add it back into AD. Then it would either inherit the permissions from AD, or we would have to do something to apply the same permissions back. How is this done where it doesn't take you hundreds of hours with many users?
