If I decommission as server in DFS will it delete the files on the other servers it has replicated to?

Hello Everyone,

So this question may have been answered before, but I am not 100% sure.

I am getting ready to decommission a Windows 2003 server box. The question is, when I go to decommission the server will it delete the files off of the root server(s), and if so how can I prevent this.

The server is part of a production group so it is very crucial that nothing be deleted on other servers.

Would it be safer to just back up the files on the computer even though they have been replicated to other servers?

The server is a standalone and not a root server.

I hope all the information I have provided is helpful.

Thank you in advance for all the help,

JP
