Share and NTFS Permissions on Server 2008 R2

Hi,

I seem to be going round in circles with this so hopefully someone can tell me where I am going wrong!

We have a File Server that has one particular Root folder shared. The share permissions on this folder are currently set for 'Everyone' for full permission and then I have been playing with NTFS permissions to restrict from there.

Folder Structure:
Main Folder Share > Individual Job Folders > multiple identical set folders with sub folders

I am wanting to change the permissions so that:

  • all users can access the folders.
  • all users to be able to do create, modify and delete the files.
  • I want to restrict users from creating new folders in the 'Main Share' and the 'Individual Job Folder' to try and keep the exact same structure. However, I want to allow them to create folders once they get into the 'multiple identical set folders with sub folders'. For example in the main share there will be a 'job folder' inside that there is another folder called 'Digital Pictures' I want them only to be able to create a new folder once they are inside this folder.
  • Restrict deleting/Renaming folders unless they created them.

At present if a user tries to create a new folder they can but it won't allow them to type a name or delete it so there will a load of 'new folders'. Also even though all users had all permissions apart from delete, change permissions etc they started to receive error messages when saving documents back to the job folders! I fully understand I will need to have a mixture of NTFS permissions some of which inherited and some separate rules for the same users set to the folder or files only etc. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
