Hi, my current environment is the following.
- A Single Forest\Domain
- Winows 2003 Forest\DOmain functional level
- 48 DC's at multiple sites worldwide
- 2 Windows 2003 Domain Controllers also acting as the Domain Namespace root servers. DC1 and DC2 both host the Active Directory\\domain\namespace namespace.
Here is my problem. DC1 will have an issue, for example run out of virtual memory or is offline. The way I understood the HA for DFS was the 2nd Namespace server will take over serviceing the referrals to clients. Well that is NOT happeing. DC1 goes down and several clients cannot get to the DFS targets due to the namespace server being offline. Shouldn't DC2 (2nd namespace server) service these referrals? This causes a serious problem when clients can not access files.
Is there a setting that must be set to have the failover take place? Is there a namespace server cache on the client that needs to be removed or timeout changed.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please do not answer Fix DC1's virtual memory issue. :)
Thanks,
Steve
