We've added another disk to the RAID array on a windows 2008 w32 server.
Followed our normal procedure
- extended the RAID array so that the extra space shows in disk management
- ran diskpart and extended the volume into the free space
However although disk management tool shows the correct size, the disk properties still shows the original size.
After reading dozens of posts from people having the same issue we tried the following
- Diskpart extend filesystem numerous times (all say they completed successfully)
- Shrinking disk and then using diskpart extend again
- Shrinking disk and then using diskpart to extend 50GB at a time
- rebooting the server
- as per other posts "made funny faces" "shouted at it" "kicked some empty cardboard boxes"
In all cases the Disk Management tool says that the volume has been extended but disk properties still show original size.
We've completed this task successfully on dozens of 2003 and 2008R2 servers, whoever we don't have many 2008 servers so there may be something different about this OS.
Our next step is deleting the partition and restoring from backup, but obviously this is a last resort.
Any one got any better ideas ?
