Hi All,
I have couple of new DELL servers where i need to configure disks , these servers have windows server 2012 installed on it. let me tell you about one server .
One server has 6 disks attached each of 10k speed. when i start up the server i could only one disk with 600gb on which OS is installed and all other disks are not showing up in my server . So i went to the BIOS settings to configure the disks by creating virtual disks on servers . Later i created physical volumes from the virtual disks in WindowsServer .Then it showed 5disks with 500Gb space . So far so good .
But i could see only 5 disks with 600GB space, there is one disk that is missing .When i go to BIOS i see only "Virtual disk 0: (20GB) online " for the missing disk , but all other disks are showing as "Virtual disk1: (600GB) online" , Why this showing only 20GB for the Disk 0 i am unable to understand. It is even showing 20GB in Storage Pools of ServerManager of WindowsServer .I know that StoragePool shows only the unallocated space ,but why this is showing 20GB allocated space when it has 600GB.
So, what i have done here is I deleted that virtual drive to reconfigure it. Unfortunately my entire OS has also gone after removing that virtual disk.
Now could you please suggest me whether the things i have done is correctly or not. If i reinstall OS on those servers will i get that missing disk configured correctly
I am BI developer , it is my first time to configure the servers. So please forgive me in the case i have done mistakes :)
